Description

The excursion begins with the search for passengers in El Calafate (1).
On the way to Los Glaciares National Park, the tour guides will provide you with information about the place, the glacier and the excursion (optional).
For those who do not hire the transfer service, the activity begins at the Bajo de las Sombras port and ends there.

Once at the port “Bajo de las Sombras” (Route 11, 70 km from El Calafate) you embark to cross Rico Lake, arriving at the opposite coast after approximately 20 minutes of navigation in front of the imposing south face of the Perito Moreno Glacier.

Upon disembarking, the tour begins with a 30-minute walk along the shore of the lake and with the view resting on the glacier so as not to miss the opportunity to see landslides.
Once next to the ice it will be time for an unforgettable experience, you will fully enjoy its intense and varied blues, whites and its whimsical shapes.

Time to take lots of photos of the majestic Perito Moreno Glacier.

Then the return to the embarkation place begins, always accompanied by an experienced guide. The total walk (round trip to the port) is approximately 1.30 hours through a natural terrain of sand and stones with some slopes and stairs.
The route, of one and a half kilometers, will be along the shore of the lake and through a lush forest with views of the Glacier.

Finally, you embark to appreciate from the water and, a few meters away, the entire south face of the glacier and be able to see every detail of the marbled ice wall.

For those who take the transfer service (optional), the activity continues with a visit to the walkways in front of the Perito Moreno glacier, where you stay for two hours, and then return to the hotels.

The guide will explain the available circuit options for exploration. The walk along the walkways is self-guided; however, the guide will accompany the group to the main balcony and remain there to provide assistance.
The walkways stretch for 5 km and are made up of stairways that descend to within about 300 meters of the glacier’s face.
The Main Balcony is located 146 meters from the walkway access, offering a stunning view. From there, you can observe both the north and south walls, as well as the glacier’s damming area.
From each of the remaining balconies, distributed along the stairways, you can appreciate the majesty of this ice giant.

If you’ve traveled independently, you’re free to choose how long you spend visiting the walkways. You can also use this time to enjoy the packed lunch you should bring from El Calafate.

Itinerary

The times provided are illustrative, using 9:00 AM for hotel pick-ups and 12:00 PM for arrival at Puerto Bajo de La Sombra as examples.
These times will vary based on the confirmed schedule for your reservation.

• 9:00 AM: Hotel pick-up begins -(optional)-.
• 10:45 AM: Arrive at the National Park access gate.
  Purchase National Park entrance tickets at the Río Mitre ranger station (we recommend buying them on the National Parks website).
• 11:45 AM: Check-in at Puerto Bajo de La Sombra.
• 12:00 PM: Catamaran departs. Approach the glacier’s south face.
  Disembark.
  Walk along the lake shore to the glacier and enjoy the experience of touching the glacier!
  Time to enjoy the glacier views.
  Walk back to the port through the forest.
  Board the catamaran and set sail.
• 2:45 PM: Disembark at Puerto Bajo de La Sombra.
  Transfer to the walkways in front of the Perito Moreno Glacier –(optional)-.
  Walk along the walkways for one hour.
• 5:00 PM: Depart to El Calafate.
• 6:15 PM: Arrive back in El Calafate and return to hotels.

The excursion is suitable for people between 6 and 70 years old.
People with reduced mobility cannot participate.

Pregnant Women
Individuals with any degree or type of physical or mental disability that affects their attention, gait, and/or coordination cannot participate.
Individuals with central or peripheral cardiovascular diseases, diminished cardiac or vascular capabilities, or who use stents, bypasses, pacemakers, or other prostheses cannot participate. Examples include those taking anticoagulant medications or having Grade III varicose veins (thick and multiple visible veins).
Individuals suffering from respiratory disabilities (such as COPD, asthma, emphysema, etc.) cannot participate.

• Dress in comfortable, warm clothing. An impermeable jacket and pants are ideal (though not essential). Wear athletic shoes or waterproof trekking boots. The weather can change quickly, so it’s important to be prepared to avoid getting wet or cold. Don’t forget sunglasses, sunscreen, gloves, and a hat.
• What are the departure times?
  Departure times vary due to different daily departures, depending on whether you book with or without transfers and the time of year. Your departure time will be confirmed after your purchase. Times are assigned as slots fill up: for those meeting at the port, times range from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM; with transfer service, times are between 7:00 AM and 11:00 AM.We’ll send you a voucher with your reservation details after your purchase. • How long is the walk?
  You’ll walk a total of 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach the glacier and return. For those who book the transfer service, you’ll need to add two hours of walking on the walkways.
• Can I let you know if I’m delayed in reaching the departure port?
  Departures are punctual. No-shows will result in the loss of the excursion.
• Do I need to bring a packed lunch, or is there somewhere to eat?
  Yes, it’s necessary to bring a packed lunch with a drink.
• Does it include the visit to the walkways?
  If you book the transfer service, the two-hour visit to the walkways is included.
