Description

The activity begins with the search of the passengers by the hotels (1), accompanied by a bilingual guide.
We take Route No. 11 to the intersection of National Route No. 40 (32 Km) in the direction of El Chaltén, we will take the mythical Route 40 bordering Argentino Lake, we will cross the Santa Cruz River (here we will relate Darwin’s experiences with Fitz Roy going up this river to very close to this point), we continue to the La Leona River, where we will travel through its ravine until we arrive after 1 hour 15 minutes, to the old and historic hotel of La Leona route, where if the passenger wishes he can have a coffee with homemade cakes and enjoy the small museum.

It continues bordering Viedma Lake, until the meeting of Provincial Route No. 23, having the Andes mountain range in the background, including Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre.

Before arriving at the town we will stop at the viewpoint of the Viedma Glacier from where you can appreciate a beautiful panoramic view of the Glacier, the mountain range and the emblematic Fitz Roy and Torre hills.
Arriving at the mountain village of El Chaltén after approximately 3 hours of travel, having traveled 220 km.

Once in the town, the guide will give each passenger their lunch and then they will be indicated the beginning of the self-guided trails that leave from Chaltén and lead to the main viewpoints: Capri Lagoon, Fitz Roy viewpoint, Cerro Torre viewpoint, Mirador de los Cóndores, Chorrillo waterfall, Loma del Pliegue Tumbado (Laguna viewpoint and Cerro Torre) for which you will be advised on the different options depending on your physical condition.
Towards the end of the afternoon, at the agreed time, passengers must return to the meeting point for the return to El Calafate.

Itinerary

  • 07:30 am: beginning of the tour of the hotels. (*)(1)
  • 09:00 am: La Leona parador.
  • 11:00 am: arrival in El Chaltén.
    Walks of your choice.
  • 5:00 pm: departure to El Calafate.
  • 8:00 pm: return to El Calafate and the hotels. (1)

(*) According to season – schedules:
Daily departures, from 01/10 to 15/04/24: start of the tour of the hotels: 07:30 am– return to El Calafate at approximately 20:00 pm.
September, departures Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Start of the tour: 08:00 am– return to El Calafate at approximately 19:15 pm.

Difficulty level: low-medium, depending on the walks to be done.
The excursion is suitable for all ages, depending on the trekking path taken.
People with reduced mobility cannot participate, the trails are mountain trails.
No accessibility for people in wheelchairs.
Duration: 10/12 hours.

Standard Meal: 2 Ham and cheese sandwiches, 1 fruit, 1 sweet, 1 bottle of water.
Vegetarian Meal: 2 cheese, lettuce and tomato sandwiches, 1 fruit, 1 sweet, 1 bottle of water.
Celiac Friendly Meal (No Tacc): 2 Ham and Cheese Sandwiches on corn flour bread, 1 fruit, 1 bottle of water.

Tips – FAQ

  • On a sunny day, wear sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and water.
  • Don’t trust the Patagonian sun, always bring a coat.
  • In winter, wear a hat, gloves and a warm jacket, if it is waterproof, it is better.
  • Wear comfortable shoes for walks.
  • Having trekking poles is helpful for hiking.
  • Do you visit the town?
    It is at your discretion, you can take a walk and enjoy the tourist village.
  • Is the guide at our disposal?
    No, the guide only provides his services during transfers.
  • Should I bring a snack or is there somewhere to eat?
    A meal with a drink is included, it is advisable to bring a drink for the walks, as well as a snack for a snack.
  • Are there bathrooms on site?
    At the stopping point upon arrival and before departure.
