The Santa Cruz River has been the route of one of the most emblematic explorers of Patagonia, Charles Darwin. Live a different experience by recreating part of your travel route by Kayak, surrounded by Patagonian landscapes.

Description

The Darwin Experience – Kayak excursion begins wiby picking up the passengers at the hotels (1).

At 9:00 a.m. the tour begins by the hotels, in 4×4 vehicles, taking route N° 40. After 40 km we arrive at the Santa Cruz River and the Charles Furh area.

Upon arrival, the double kayaks are prepared, all the necessary equipment for the activity is provided (which is included: Gore tex dry suits, life vest, boots and gloves), the expert certified guides will give a talk about the activity and safety measures, adaptation exercises are carried out.

Once ready, the experience begins in the kayaks, traveling 15 km on the waters of the Santa Cruz River, in approximately 90 minutes.
During the paddle you will be able to observe geological formations and a variety of fauna. The guides will make stops to provide explanations about the different attractions.

The final point of the kayak tour is at El Rincón ranch. Upon arrival after leaving the equipment, lunch is waiting for you on the banks of the Santa Cruz River (menu: focaccia with eggplant dip, tomato provoleta, salads, steak Creole style, chocolate mousse and drinks).

After lunch, we return to El Calafate in 4×4 vehicles, first taking a gravel route, typical of the Patagonian ranches (25 km) until reaching route No. 40, 14:00 hours arriving at the hotels.

The activity does not require previous experience, it is considered demanding due to the duration of 90 minutes in the kayaks.

Optional companion: people who do not want to paddle can participate in the activity, accompanying the group, after leaving the kayakers they go in the 4×4 to El Rincón ranch, and enjoy lunch with them.

Itinerary

• 09:00 am: beginning of the tour by the hotels(1).
  Route No., 40 after 40 km we arrive at the Santa Cruz River and the Charles Furh area.
  Instruction by the guides.

• 14:00 pm: return to El Calafate and the hotels.

Difficulty level: high.
The excursion is suitable for people over 16 years old. Not suitable for pregnant women.
People with reduced mobility cannot participate.
No accessibility for people in wheelchairs.

(1) The search is provided for hotels, inns, hostels, cabin complexes or aparts with 24-hour reception. Passengers are not sought by daily rental apartments, or any other that does not have a reception, in these cases it is requested to inform the address of the accommodation to locate the nearest hotel.

Tips – FAQ

• On a sunny day, wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat.
• Don’t trust the Patagonian sun, always bring a coat.
• In winter, wear a hat, gloves and a warm jacket, if it is waterproof, it is better.
• Wear comfortable shoes.
• Is previous experience required?
  It is not necessary, with the company and instructions of the instructor the activity is carried out safely.
• Is the guide at our disposal?
  The activity is carried out next to it.
• Is food included?

• Are there bathrooms on site?
  The ranch has toilets.

• Only the expenses incurred according to the payment method, if any, will be applied.
