Description

The excursion begins with the passengers searching for their hotels-optional-(1) in El Calafate. On the way to Los Glaciares National Park, the tourist guides will provide you with information about the place, the glacier and the excursion  visiting the walkways in front of the glacier for one hour.

Once at the port “Bajo de las Sombras” or presentation on your own (Route 11, 70 km from El Calafate) you embark to cross the Rico arm of Lake Argentino, arriving at the opposite coast after approximately 20 minutes of navigation in front of the imposing south face of the Perito Moreno Glacier.

Upon arriving at the refuge, the group will be greeted by expert mountain guides, who will divide them into subgroups and accompany them throughout the entire route. The trekking begins with a walk along the moraine for approximately 2 hours, where you can see different panoramic views of the glacier and the forest.

The Big Ice is a highly personalized excursion: the groups on the ice will be up to 10 people, accompanied by two mountain guides, who will be fitted with crampons, helmets and harnesses and will explain the basic safety rules.

The physical demand is high both in the forest and on the ice, where the surface is irregular but firm and safe.

You will explore the most special corners of the glacier in the world for approximately three hours. During the tour, the mountain guides will help you better understand the ice, its surroundings and you will be able to measure the magnitude of the glacier and enjoy the view of the surrounding mountains, such as the Dos Picos, Pietrobelli and Cervantes hills. In addition, they will have half an hour to have lunch and be surprised in a place of unparalleled beauty. Time for lunch in the repair area.

At the end of the walk on the glacier, you will return along the same path until they reach the Refuge, where you will have a few minutes to contemplate this place of unparalleled beauty.

When taking the return boat, you will navigate very close to the south face of the Perito Moreno Glacier and then return to the port of departure.

For those who take the transfer service –optional-(1), the activity continues with the return to the hotels.

Difficulty level: high.
The excursion is suitable for people between 18 and 50 years old.
People with reduced mobility, with any degree or type of physical or mental disability that affects their attention, gait and/or coordination cannot participate.
General limitations: Due to the degree of effort and difficulty (HIGH, with steep ups and downs on uneven terrain) that this activity presents and with the sole objective of preserving health, the following will not be able to participate:
People with obesity. In the case of adults, the World Health Organization (WHO) defines obesity as such when a person has a Body Mass Index (BMI) equal to or greater than 30. The BMI is calculated by dividing the weight of a person in kilos times the square of their height in meters: (kg/m2).
Pregnant women.
People who suffer from central or peripheral cardiovascular diseases, whose cardiac or vascular capacities are diminished, or who use stents, bypasses, pacemakers or other prostheses. Example: anticoagulant medications, grade III varicose veins (those that appear thick and multiple).
People who suffer from diseases caused by respiratory disabilities such as COPD, asthma, emphysema, among others.
Duration: 7:30 hours. With optional transfer: 12 hours.
Language: Spanish and English.

• How can you walk on the Perito Moreno glacier safely?
  To walk on the glacier ice, it is essential to use crampons, which are provided by the organizing company. The mountain guides will be in charge of placing them in their shoes appropriately and will explain how to use them safely.
• What are the departure times?
  The schedules vary since there are different daily departures depending on whether I book with or without transfers and the time of year. The departure time is confirmed after your purchase. Schedules are assigned as they are occupied, with port presentation varying between 10 and 11 a.m., with transfer service between 6:45 a.m. and 8 a.m.

• How long does it take to walk?
  You walk with crampons for approximately 3:00 hours in the Minitrekking. To these times we must add the round trip walks to and from the glacier. In the case of Big Ice, 4 hours round trip. These are approximate times, as they may vary due to weather and the physical conditions of the group.
• If I am delayed in arriving at the port of departure, can I notify?
  Departure is punctual, no-show implies loss of the excursion.
• Should I bring a snack or is there somewhere to eat?
  Yes, it is necessary to bring a meal with a drink.
• Does it include a visit to the catwalks? In the case of hiring the transfer service, a visit to the walkways for one hour is included
