Description

Huyliche Hill 4×4: from the top of Huyliche Hill – an impressive natural viewpoint – you can enjoy a panoramic view of El Calafate, the Andes Mountains, the central body of Argentino Lake and the South Arm, on clear days you can also see the summit of Mount Fitz Roy and the Southern Patagonian Ice Field.

The Cerro Huyliche Balconies Full 4×4 excursion begins with the pick-up of passengers from their hotels.

Ascent
From El Calafate, in just a few minutes, we will begin the ascent to the Huyliche mountain range. The route begins by traveling along the slopes of the Calafate Brook Canyon, from where we will be able to see the native fauna: guanacos, foxes, hares, loicas, bandurrias, caranchos and falcons, among other species.

Continuing with the Huyliche Hill 4×4 excursion, we travel the winding upward path surrounded by erratic blocks, witnesses of the power of glacial erosion until the first Balcony, scene of the Cenozoic Era, dated 65 million years ago, on the bed of an ancient sea that is exposed in the form of fossils, sediment and pieces of fossilized vegetation.

After getting off the vehicles for a few minutes, we will continue to 1100 meters above sea level, the upper balconies, a panoramic point of the Andes Mountains, the Patagonian Continental Ice and all the arms of Argentino Lake, surrounded by curious rock formations.

On clear days you can see from Mount Stokes to Fitz Roy Mount and Torre Mount, in Chaltén, as well as the Patagonian Continental Ice on the Cordillera.

If the valley is covered by clouds, we will be able to see the Cordillera above the clouds – which are normally located at 700 meters – about 400 meters below our position.

In addition to the unforgettable views of Argentino Lake, Brazo Rico, the Devil’s Throat and the Cordillera, the location of Los Balcones above the condors’ nests makes it an ideal place to appreciate the majestic flight of the Andean Condor, a bird of largest area of ​​Continental Patagonia.

Descent
We will undertake the descent in a 4×4 along the southern slope of the hill, where we will stop to take a walk towards the Labyrinth of Stones, a curious rock formation product of wind erosion over thousands of years.

Where we will find marine fossils, indigenous remains, various rocks and particular stones and fantastic caves resulting from erosion, a fantastic place for unforgettable photographs.

Ranch
Continuing the descent we will arrive at Huyliche Ranch, a historic livestock establishment in operation that dates back to the 1920s, the time of the historic events known as Patagonia Rebel.
We will visit the historic shearing shed, which serves as a setting for the guides to give their talk, then we will enter the oldest house on the ranch to enjoy lunch, snack or dinner.
